De specificaties verklappen al wat de twist bij de Define S is; de traditionele HDD en ODD bays ontbreken namelijk. Optische stations zijn dan ook niet te combineren, en wat opslag betreft heb je ruimte voor 2 2.5” drives en 3 3.5” of 2.5” drives. Minder dan de gemiddelde toren, maar met de grote HDDs en SSDs van tegenwoordig vraag ik mij af wat de praktische beperking is.
De keerzijde is niet onverwacht een behuizing die zich geheel richt op waterkoeling, en de hele productpagina lijkt daar ook aan op te gaan. 240mm, 280mm, en zelfs 360mm radiatoren passen aan de voorzijde, en bovenin is zelfs ruimte voor een 420mm model. Daarbij is de ruimte waar de HDD cages normaliter zitten gereed gemaakt voor populaire pomp en radiator varianten, en het ontbreken van cages zorgt voor een ongehinderde airflow door de hele behuizing.
De koeling gaat dan wel ten koste van opslag, de all-round featureset lijkt er zeker niet onder te lijden: stof-filters, geluidsdemping, velcro kabel management, twee standaard 140mm ventilatoren, en een (kleine) zee aan kabelmanagement ruimte zijn niet verkeerd voor deze prijsklasse. Fancontrollers en een SD-kaartlezer ontbreken wel in de lijst, en hoewel 2 USB 3.0 poorten de gemiddelde gebruiker niet zullen hinderen is dat ook geen vetpot.
